According to COUNTRYAAH, Trinidad and Tobago is an island state in the south of the Caribbean just a few kilometers off the coast of Venezuela. The large island of Trinidad and the much smaller Tobago are not of volcanic origin, but were once connected to the South American mainland.
The capital of the state is Port of Spain in the north-west of Trinidad, and around 550,000 people live in the surrounding metropolitan area. Overall, the population of Trinidad and Tobago is around 1.4 million people.
The official language on both islands is English, but Spanish is widely spoken due to its proximity to the mainland. The country has been independent from the United Kingdom since August 31, 1962. The currency is the so-called Trinidad and Tobago dollar.
Both islands are crossed by mountain ranges and have large areas of forest. The highest mountain is the Cerro del Aripo with 941 meters on Trinidad.
The journey from Germany is mainly to Tobago, which is served by several European airlines (especially Condor from Frankfurt). The flight time is around 10 hours. Both islands can also be reached several times a week with British Airways via London; there are also intra-Caribbean connections and flights via the USA.

Climate in Trinidad & Tobago
The two islands of Trinidad and Tobago have a typically tropical climate with only minor temperature fluctuations over the course of the year. The average daily temperature is 30.5 degrees in the coolest month of January and 32.2 ° C in the warmest month of April.
Since these are statistical mean values, the peak values can be significantly higher on particularly hot days, but in general Trinidad and Tobago have very constant temperatures. Even at night it remains very mild with at least 20 degrees all year round.
In general, the larger Trinidad is a bit more sheltered from the wind and therefore has slightly higher temperatures than Tobago, but these are hardly noticeable to the body. There are no classic seasons in the Caribbean, only the rainy season has to be distinguished from the dry season.
The rainy season in Trinidad and Tobago begins around the end of May and usually lasts until mid- December. It goes hand in hand with increased humidity and humid and warm climatic conditions. The dry season runs accordingly from around the end of December to the beginning of May. The rainiest month is usually July.
Hurricane danger in Trinidad and Tobago?
In general, the hurricane season in the Caribbean runs from June to November, the highest risk of tropical cyclones is statistically in the months of June, September and October as the peak of the annual hurricane season. The months of July and August are rarely affected.
Due to its southern location below the usual hurricane belt, Trinidad and Tobago are largely safe from hurricanes. Together with Aruba, Bonair and Curacao, as well as Barbados and Grenada, they fall on the list of the least endangered Caribbean islands.
For the sake of completeness, we would like to mention that in 1963 Hurricane Flora caused severe devastation, especially on Tobago, while Trinidad was largely spared. Nevertheless, the risk of hurricanes on both islands is – as described – extremely low.
When is the best time to visit Trinidad and Tobago?
In general, both Caribbean islands are suitable for a trip all year round, because even if there may be temporary restrictions during the rainy season, even the rainiest month of July spoils you with an average of seven hours of sunshine and mostly pleasant conditions.
In addition, the prices are correspondingly reduced during the rainy season and attract with great bargains, especially outside the European holiday seasons. In recent years it has also been shown that September and October recorded significantly less rainfall than the surrounding months.
However, there can only be one answer to the question of the absolute best travel time for Trinidad and Tobago, namely the dry season. The months of January to April are particularly recommended for a Caribbean trip to the region, and the two transitional months of December and May, with minor reductions.

Temperatures
The average annual temperature in Port of Spain is 26 ° C. For comparison: Munich reaches an average of 8.6 ° C, in Berlin it is 9.6 ° C. The warmest month is May (26.9 ° C), coldest month of January with mean values of 24.8 ° C. The maximum water temperature in Port of Spain is 29 ° C. Comfortable bathing is possible at these temperatures. All months have a water temperature of at least 21 ° C and are therefore suitable for a beach holiday.
Precipitation
The annual precipitation is 1870 mm on 165 days with precipitation. For comparison: In Munich, 967 mm, in Berlin 570 mm, precipitation is measured annually. The months of June, July, August, September, October and November are considered the rainy season, as more than 175 mm of precipitation can be expected per month. Overall, about 1398 mm of precipitation can be expected in the rainy season. You cannot expect snow in any month in Port of Spain.
