General & Geography
The Eurasian state of Georgia is located on the border between Asia and Europe in Transcaucasia. According to COUNTRYAAH, the Black Sea borders to the east of Georgia and the Greater Caucasus to the south. To the north is Russia and south to Armenia and Turkey.
Located at about the height of Rome, the mighty mountain ranges of the Great Caucasus extend over 1000 km to the north and around 180 km in width. These mountains form the border between Europe and Asia. The Lesser Caucasus runs parallel and borders the Armenian highlands in the south.
Thanks to different climatic zones, Georgia offers a very large biodiversity. Furthermore, the development of native plants is very much favored by closed valleys. The lower mountain area is home to deciduous forests, conifers and firs grow in higher elevations.
Georgia is relatively scarcely populated with just under 3.7 million inhabitants on an area of over 57,000 km². The majority of the population lives in the capital Tbilisi. The main language is Georgian and this belongs to the South Caucasian language family, which among other things has its own alphabet.
Georgia is a democratic republic with a centralized administration and a strong presidential system. The Prime Minister is nominated by the President and then approved by Parliament.

Climate in Georgia
The country is characterized by strong climatic contrasts. It is divided between three different climate zones: subtropical to Mediterranean climate on the coast of the Black Sea, continental climate which can be found east of the Surami Mountains, and alpine climate in the mountain regions.
Due to the mountain ranges and the Black Sea, however, the country is spared from extreme heat and cold periods.
The precipitation rate is different in large parts of the country. The slope of precipitation decreases from west to east. Precipitation is sparse in the Mtkvari lowlands, with only around 200-300 mm per year. The landscape here resembles a steppe, as it becomes increasingly drier towards the east.
