General & Geography
According to COUNTRYAAH, the Republic of Fiji (often just called Fiji in German) is an independent island state in the southern Pacific, which was a British crown colony from 1874 to 1966 and is now run as a parliamentary democracy.
Over 330 islands form the Fiji Arichpel with a total area of more than 18,000 square kilometers, around 115 islands of the Republic of Fiji are actually inhabited today.
The capital is the city of Suva on the southeast coast of the largest island Viti Levu, which together with Vanua Levu makes up almost 90 percent of the total land area of Fiji. Almost all Fiji Islands are of volcanic origin, only a few smaller islands developed over time from the surrounding coral reefs.
The highest point in Fiji is Mount Tomanivi at 1,324 meters, which was still known as Mount Victoria during colonial times. The total population of the Fiji Islands is currently around 900,000 people.
The service sector has the largest share of the gross domestic product at over 50 percent. Tourism on the dreamy Fiji Islands is becoming increasingly important and occupies a leading position in the South Pacific. For comparison: The number of visitors from abroad is still around twice as high as in French Polynesia and up to five times as high as in Samoa.
Almost half of all South Seas tourists to Fiji come from New Zealand and Australia, followed by the former colonial powers Great Britain and Japan. But German travelers also value the Fiji Islands as a real dream travel destination due to their unique beauty, paradisiacal beaches and excellent luxury resorts.
The journey to Fiji from Germany usually takes place with a stopover in Seoul (South Korea), Hong Kong, Singapore or Los Angeles to Nadi.

Climate in Fiji (Fiji)
The Fiji Islands have a hot and humid tropical climate, the temperatures are high all year round and there can be heavy rains in every month of travel. As our Fiji climate table shows, air temperatures are subject to very little change.
Basically, however, two seasons can be distinguished in Fiji: the wetter summer from around the beginning of November to the end of April, when the likelihood of cyclones (tropical cyclones) is increased, and the cooler winter time from May to the end of October.
But even in winter, the trade winds ensure strong cloud formation and sometimes torrential rain, especially on the mountainous south coast of the largest island of Viti Levu. It looks different in the rain shadow, especially in the north-west, where it remains extremely dry in winter.
When is the best time to visit the Fiji Islands?
As already mentioned, the hot and humid climate of the Fiji Islands ensures that there are quite high levels of precipitation and constant temperatures all year round. Nevertheless, the southern winter, especially April to October, is particularly recommended as the best time to travel to Fiji.
The air in the South Seas is not as humid, hot and oppressive, and in most regions of Fiji there is significantly less precipitation. On top of that, the risk of zklones (in the southern summer from November to April) is clearly avoided.
