Denmark is a so-called intercontinental country, since the official national territory includes the areas of the Faroe Islands and Greenland in addition to the Danish heartland between the Baltic Sea and the North Sea. The Faroe Islands are geographically part of Europe, but Greenland is the largest island on earth in the arctic part of North America.
The official currency is the Danish krone, Denmark has not yet introduced the euro. The largest cities after the capital Copenhagen are Aarhus in Midtjylland, Odense in the Syddanmark region, Aalborg, Esbjerg and Randers.

Climate in Denmark
As one of countries with D according to COUNTRYAAH, Denmark has a cool, temperate climate that is characterized by mild summers and cool winters. The popular travel destination in Scandinavia is almost completely surrounded by water, this natural barrier has a great influence on the weather and ensures maritime influences. This can be seen, for example, in the winter temperatures that have been moderated by the North Atlantic Current.
As a rule, permafrost rarely prevails even in winter, although the values are often below freezing at night, reaching between December and March, during the day, however, usually between 2 and 5 ° C. The west of Denmark has quite moderate rainfall, in the east of the country it is even drier. There is no rainy season, there can be little rain every month.
Statistically, most of the rain even falls in midsummer (July), but the weather at this time is largely comparable to that of northern Germany. The daytime temperatures are usually between 19 and 23 degrees, at night it cools down to 12 to 14 degrees. You can expect long days and lots of sunshine (up to 8.7 hours of sunshine per day) between May and August.
When to go to Denmark
The mild climate in summer offers ideal conditions for a vacation in Denmark and is therefore unreservedly recommended as the best travel time. The water temperatures at the Baltic Sea and North Sea are, however, more suitable for the “hard-boiled” all year round, as even in midsummer the sea rarely exceeds 17 degrees. On windless, particularly warm days, however, these values are ideal for a short refreshment – it is and remains a jump into the cool water.
The Danish island of Bornholm is known for its good summer weather; statistically, the climate there is particularly friendly for Danish standards. In autumn and spring you can no longer think of a beach holiday anyway, but then the temperatures are still good for a city trip or long walks by the sea.
Copenhagen in particular, but also many smaller cities, have their own charm in winter. So we would by no means generally advise against traveling to Denmark in winter, but summer is without a doubt the best time to travel to Scandinavia.
