It is bordered by Afghanistan to the south, Uzbekistan to the west, Kyrgyzstan to the north and China to the east. Tajikistan enjoys a continental climate with hot summers and cold winters. Tajikistan’s higher education system consists of 19 public universities located in major cities such as Dushanbe, Khujand and Kulob as well as several private universities. The public universities offer degree programs in a wide range of fields from engineering and medicine to business administration, technology and law. Most degree programs are taught in Tajik although some universities offer English-taught courses such as those offered by Tajik State University or Khujand State University. There are also a number of foreign universities which have established campuses or joint-degree programs in Tajikistan such as Germany’s Free University of Berlin or France’s Université Paris Descartes (UPD).
