At this level students are required to take part in classes designed to promote respect for national identity, culture, language and history while also teaching them about democratic values such as tolerance, democracy, human rights etc. Tertiary level education includes universities offering degree programs across numerous disciplines such as engineering, medicine and business studies as well as private colleges providing courses ranging from certificates through to postgraduate degrees such as Masters or Doctorates. These institutions have seen significant investment from both public and private sectors over recent years resulting in improved facilities for students studying at this level. In terms of educational attainment, Oman has achieved impressive progress over recent decades with an average number of 9 years spent in formal education among adults aged 25-64 years old – a significant increase from just 4 years when Sultan Qaboos first came into power. This improvement has been made possible due to increased investment in both public and private education institutions throughout Oman resulting in improved access to educational opportunities for all citizens regardless of their social class or financial background.
