It is made up of four main island groups: the Mariana Islands, the Caroline Islands, the Marshall Islands and the Gilbert Islands. The total land area of Micronesia is approximately 2,500 square miles and it is home to over 500,000 people. The geography of Micronesia consists of small islands that are volcanic in origin.
