According to wholevehicles, Bhutan is a small, landlocked country located in the Himalayan Mountains of South Asia. It is bordered by India to the south and China to the north, and is home to some of the most beautiful mountain scenery in the world. The terrain of Bhutan consists of rugged mountains, valleys and plateaus, with subtropical plains in its southern regions. The highest peak in Bhutan is Gangkhar Puensum at an elevation of 24,840 feet (7,570 meters). The majority of Bhutan’s population lives in rural areas and many people rely on subsistence farming for their livelihoods. The climate in Bhutan can vary significantly depending on elevation and location. Generally speaking, it has warm summers with monsoon rains from June to September, followed by cool winters with very little precipitation from October to March. Bhutan has a long history of education that dates back centuries ago when Buddhist teachings were first introduced into the region. Education was traditionally provided by Buddhist monasteries and temples as well as local communities. In recent years, however, Bhutan has made significant progress towards modernizing its education system with a focus on increasing access to quality education for all citizens. Primary school education is free and compulsory for all children between ages 6-14 under the country’s Education Act 2014. There are currently over 5500 primary schools across Bhutan offering basic education such as language arts (English and Dzongkha), math, science and social studies as well as extracurricular activities such as sports or art classes. Secondary school education is also free but not compulsory; students must pass an entrance exam before being admitted into secondary school programs which are offered through both public institutions such as Royal Thimphu College or private schools such as Druk School or Sherubtse College. In addition to primary and secondary schools there are several higher educational institutions that offer degree programs at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels such as Royal University of Bhutan which offers various degree programs ranging from engineering to business management or National Institute of Traditional Medicine which provides training in traditional medicine practices including acupuncture and herbal medicine treatments. Distance learning courses are also available through various universities across the country providing students with increased flexibility when it comes to studying from home or abroad while online platforms are offering various degrees from universities such as Royal Thimphu College or Jigme Namgyel Engineering College which have recently launched programs offering full undergraduate degrees online.
