What is Sunny Beach and where is it located?
According to abbreviationfinder, the sunny beach in Bulgaria is a German word creation for a popular seaside resort Slantschew brjag (translated as “sunny coast”, in English often Sunny Beach) on the Black Sea.
In the northern Gulf of Burgas, Sunny Beach is located in a beautiful bay between St. Vlas and the city of Nesebar. Since the turn of the millennium at the latest, the region has experienced a real tourism boom and has impressed visitors from all over the world with its hot summers and the outstanding price-performance ratio that is still outstanding today.
Sunny Beach is the largest health resort in Bulgaria and has a sandy beach over 10 kilometers long, on the promenade of which there are countless hotels, guest houses as well as bars, nightclubs and restaurants.
You can arrive either by car or via the nearest airports in the cities of Burgas (around 25 kilometers away) and Varna (around 100 kilometers).
Fresh water or salt water: is Sunny Beach by the sea?
Sunny Beach in Bulgaria is located on the so-called Black Sea. This is a huge inland sea, i.e. a sea that is enclosed on all sides by land. Specifically, the Ukraine, Russia, Georgia, Turkey, Romania and Bulgaria are located on the Black Sea.
Scientists suspect that around 5000 to 8000 years ago the Mediterranean Sea reached such a high water level that it broke through into the Black Sea.
Even today, the Black Sea is connected to the Marmara Sea via the Bosporus and thus connected to the Mediterranean Sea. The Black Sea is therefore salty even on Sunny Beach, but it has a very low salt content of only 1.7 percent (comparison Mediterranean: 3.8%, North Sea 3.5%).
Climate and best time to visit Sunny Beach (Bulgaria)
The climate in Bulgaria is temperate-continental and therefore comparable to Germany in terms of its basic characteristics. There are large temperature differences between daytime and nighttime values and clearly noticeable seasons. However, the climate on Sunny Beach and Golden Sands is strongly influenced by the Black Sea.
It therefore has more Mediterranean features in the coastal area. The sea is a kind of heat store and at the same time ensures significantly lower temperature fluctuations due to the wind. The dry summer months are not quite as hot, but the winters are not quite as cold as in the rest of the country.
The warmest months are July and August, they also have the lowest humidity. The best time to travel to Sunny Beach in Bulgaria is consequently the summer from around the end of May to the beginning of October. July to September is the absolute peak season, most hotels and clubs close in mid-October.
