Geographical location
According to COUNTRYAAH, the Kingdom of Morocco is a popular travel destination in northwestern Africa. Around 33.5 million people live in the country, which is only separated from mainland Europe by the narrow Strait of Gibraltar and is therefore also referred to in many travel guides as the “gateway to Africa”.
The coastal city of Tangier with its gleaming white houses is only 15 kilometers from Spain as the crow flies. However, the Moroccan royal cities of Fès, Meknes, Rabat and Marrakech as well as the sonorous metropolis of Casablanca are world-famous.
The landscape of Morocco is very diverse and changes from dreamy beaches to magical desert oases to huge mountain ranges, which are even popular as winter sports resorts in winter (e.g. Oakaimeden in the Atlas Mountains).

Climate and weather in Morocco
Morocco is basically divided into two different climate zones: In the north and north-west of the country (north of the Atlas Mountains) a Mediterranean climate is predominant with mild but humid weather in winter and very hot, dry summer months.
The southern part of the kingdom tends to have Saharan-continental weather with a very hot desert climate and only very irregular, low rainfall. In some years, the so-called Scirocco wind transports hot, dusty Sahara air into the region during the summer. The coastal regions differ significantly from the inland cities such as Marrakech.
While the winters by the sea are also quite mild, in Marrakech after a hot summer and warm autumn the temperatures can drop into the basement. As a rule of thumb, the inland is hotter in summer and colder in winter than the coast in Morocco. Of course, this does not apply to the higher mountain areas. Most of the rain usually falls in all parts of the country between November and March, there is no real rainy season in Morocco due to the overall relatively low rainfall.
When to go to Morocco
Knowing the above-mentioned differences between coastal regions and inland regions, the summer months from July to October can basically be recommended as the best travel time in Morocco for a beach holiday. Destinations such as Agadir and Casablanca now have perfect conditions with pleasantly warm daytime temperatures and a water temperature of 19 to 22 ° C suitable for bathing.
For the cities inland, however, midsummer is only partially recommended due to the enormous heat, especially July and August can become unbearable for city exploration with daily values of 37 degrees and more (in Marrakech). If you want to combine bathing fun with the sights of the cities on your Morocco vacation, we recommend the months of June and September as the optimal time. If your trip is all about beach holidays and relaxation, July, August and September are the best time to travel.

Sights and highlights
Agadir has become the main travel destination in Morocco, as a large number of good hotels are available at very reasonable prices and the beautiful beaches of the modern city are very tempting thanks to numerous flight connections from Germany. Those who like it a little quieter will find real dream beaches (with very few tourists) and an up-and-coming region with great beach hotels just a few kilometers north of Agadir in the former fishing village of Taghazout.
Marrakech is known for its seemingly endless souks and the special atmosphere on Djeema El Fna, which unfolds its extraordinary flair especially in the evening. Meanwhile, Fès offers an interesting mixture of a venerable medina (UNESCO World Heritage Site) and a new town with a French touch. Our tip: The coastal town of Essaouira, with its bustling harbor, the markets in the shadow of the old city wall and its incomparable sea view from the old ramparts, is perhaps the most beautiful excursion destination in all of Morocco!
