Climate in Lithuania
Similar to the other Baltic states, Lithuania has a temperate continental climate. This is characterized by great differences in the summer and winter months. The annual mean temperature is minus 6 degrees, in July it can be up to 17 degrees. The Baltic Sea provides maritime influences in the regions on the west coast.
Even in the winter months, for example, the daytime temperatures in Klaipeda do not usually drop below 0 degrees. In the autumn and winter months, precipitation of up to 90 millimeters can also occur here. Inland, as in the capital Vilnius, the climate is much more continental. The winters are much colder here.
In the winter months November to February temperatures can drop well below 0 degrees, especially at night. Precipitation increases in the summer months and can rise to 78 millimeters in July in the eastern regions. In the summer months, up to 9 hours of sunshine can be on the agenda, which makes the air quite warm.
When to go to Lithuania
From the month of May, the days in Lithuania will be longer and allow varied excursions and sightseeing. Those who prefer to go on a beach holiday on the Baltic Sea should travel to Lithuania in the summer months of June, July or August. At air temperatures of around 20 ° C, the water temperature rises to similar values of up to 19 degrees.
For the hardened, this shouldn’t be an obstacle to taking a dip in the cool water, especially on sunny days. We therefore recommend the summer months of June to August as the best time to travel to Lithuania. The winter months are less suitable for a trip to Lithuania due to the relatively high rainfall and falling temperatures.
