Geographical location
Short for SPC by abbreviationfinder, La Palma belongs to the archipelago of the Canaries and is located in the Atlantic Ocean. The capital of the island is Santa Cruz de La Palma. With 85,000 inhabitants, La Palma is one of the smaller Canary Islands.
The neighboring islands are Tenerife and La Gomera. La Palma is about 1300 kilometers from the Spanish and about 400 kilometers from the Moroccan mainland. Like all Canary Islands, La Palma is of volcanic origin.
Since almost half of the island is covered with forest, it has been nicknamed Isla Verde (Green Island). The highest mountain on the island is from the Roque de los Muchachos, from which one has an excellent view over the island. It takes about five hours to fly from Frankfurt to Santa Cruz de La Palma.
Climate on La Palma
All year round there is a very mild climate on La Palma. More than 3000 hours of sunshine are achieved annually, so that the annual average temperature is around 19 ° C. The maximum temperatures in summer are around 27 degrees, and the 30 degree mark is rarely exceeded. Thanks to the light winds, the weather is always easy to bear, at night it cools down to around 17 degrees in summer and around 12 degrees in winter.
In particular, the mild summer nights invite you to linger in the beautiful restaurants and beach bars. On the mountains, however, precipitation can certainly occur, in winter it can even snow. Except in the period from January to April the sea never falls below the 20 degree mark, so that bathing temperatures prevail almost all year round. The wettest months are November, December and January.
When to go to La Palma?
In the spring months of March, April and May the temperatures start to rise again, so that very pleasant values of around 22 degrees are reached. These are particularly suitable for hikers and nature lovers who enjoy the many hiking routes on La Palma through breathtaking landscapes. As in autumn, there are perfect conditions for extensive hiking tours at this travel time.
However, you should definitely have warmer clothes in your luggage, as it can get very fresh in the mountains of La Palma. For vacationers who want to enjoy the sun, the travel time from June to September is of course suitable outstanding. The whole region now appears in a lush green and lets La Palma shine in a wonderful shine.

Temperatures
The annual average temperature is 19 ° C. For comparison: Munich reaches an average of 8.6 ° C, in Berlin it is 9.6 ° C. The warmest month is August (21.9 ° C), coldest month of February with averages of 16.5 ° C. The maximum water temperature is 23 ° C. Comfortable bathing is possible at these temperatures. All months have a water temperature of at least 17 ° C. Bathing is then possible to a limited extent. The months of June, July, August, September, October and November have a water temperature of at least 21 ° C and are therefore suitable for a beach holiday.
Precipitation
The annual precipitation is 349 mm on 45 days with precipitation. For comparison: In Munich, 967 mm, in Berlin 570 mm, precipitation is measured annually. There is no rainy season, i.e. months with more than 175 mm of precipitation. Snowfall is generally not expected in any month.

Highlights and attractions
La Palma is a real highlight for all nature lovers. Compared to its large neighbors, it is not a typical beach island and has therefore largely been spared from mass tourism. A special highlight on La Palma is the Caldera de Taburiente National Park. Here you can hike wonderfully and marvel at a unique variety of plants. Of course, a walk to the highest point on the island, the Roque de La Muchachos, is also worthwhile.
From above you have an incredible view over the island and enjoy unforgettable panoramas, which should not be missing in your souvenir photos. Another hot tip is a stroll around De San Antonio volcano or Teneguia. The beautiful fishing village of San Andres y Sauces with the nearby Charco Azul swimming pool is worth more than a short detour.
