The climate of Urumqi
Urumqi is the capital of Xinjiang (Sinkiang), an autonomous region in China. The city is a melting pot of many different peoples and cultures. The area has been inhabited for centuries. Evidence of this was found in the mummies found here. As in Egypt, the ancient inhabitants of Urumqi also applied mummification techniques. The mummies are still on display at the local museum. The city is the only metropolis that is so far away from a sea or ocean and owes its prosperity to its location on the Silk Road. The various mountains nearby offer a beautiful view of the city.
According to DigoPaul, Urumqi has a cold steppe climate. There are big differences between summer and winter. In the summer the temperature can rise to over 30 °C, in the winter months the temperature drops to below freezing point.
